Who Is Kali?
Kali, also known as Eight, is one of the test subjects who escaped from Hawkins Lab before Eleven. She appears in Season 2 as the leader of a small group of outcasts living in Chicago, and she is the only other survivor of the lab's experiments that we meet on screen. Her power is illusion — she can make people see anything she wants them to see. Years of being hunted have shaped her into a completely different kind of survivor than Eleven: harder, more strategic, and far more willing to use violence to get what she wants.

Kali tries to recruit Eleven into her crew and teach her to use her power for revenge. When Eleven refuses to kill, Kali lets her go. She has not returned to the show since, but her influence remains: Eleven's encounter with Kali is what ultimately leads her to realize who she wants to be.
